What People Are Saying

Wow! amazing flute!

I love the idea of plastic flutes. A flute I can enjoy anywhere anytime without worrying about having to baby it. I have been collecting various plastic Native american style flutes and I must comment that yours is so far superior! The tuning, dynamic range, stability of pitch, beauty and clarity of pitch are amazing. I am selling my Amon Olorin PF flute because it is just frustrating to play. Notes are unstable and the tuning is poor requiring crossed fingerings to get some notes right. I have been totally spoiled by your Northern Spirit flute and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone as the ideal first flute and beyond as a keeper!

Please let me know when your mid E flutes become available! I am your loyal fan!

Sincerely, Liz Moore

Hello Rich,

Just wanted to confirm my order did arrive on the 18th and I've been playing it ever since. :) Thanks again for the premium product! Also a quick question: Should I take any breaks while playing the flute or is the ABS plastic durable enough to be played continuously for more than, say, half an hour? Thanks in advance!

Ian

Hi Ian,

I am so glad to hear the flute arrived and you are happy with it. I am pleased to let you know you can play to your hearts content. That is one of the beauties of this flute for both the regular player and even better for those who live in areas of high humidity.

In Song & In Spirit, Rich

Excellent! I'm glad to hear that. Just want to thank you again for making such a nice product, and all it took to learn how to play amazing and soothing melodies was an afternoon session. I'll be sure to recommend your services for anyone that's looking for a high quality and durable Native American Flute.

Thanks,
Ian

 Hi Rich,
The flute arrived today. I am utterly pleased. I am amazed that you've produced a plastic flute with such good sound. It truly is the best plastic Native American style flute made. I'll enjoy this for years as my travel flute. By all means, please let me know when you have the mid-E flute ready. Thanks again!
-Scott Morrell

The flutes arrived right on time and assembly instructions were excellent! The participants have been working with the flutes for the past 24 hours and today their assignment is to out into the wilds and find their song! Should be fun.

Thank you again for the amazing instruments, your great service, assistance, patience and kindness. - Gerard

Thank you for helping me to bring adult musicians seeking "another way" to the Native American flute. They were thrilled!  - Gerard

Well hello Richard sorry for being late I was away for 3 weeks . Well I picked up my mail from my friend and opened your package. To say I was surprised when I looked at it, since I already have two Native American flutes made of wood a G key & F# well I picked it up and played it I was totally blown away by the sound. I went to my lap top because I keep a sound chart of the different keys of the flutes and I can't tell the difference its so close in the key A and on top of that the finger holes are very easy to play being close because my hands are pretty beat up so I like a lot it only proves to me that to have a good thing doesn't have to cost a bundle. I know I'll be playing this flute a lot. To you and your family have a merry Christmas & happy New-Year GOD BLESS many thanks Ray

Marion and I have just returned from our 16-day rafting trip through the Grand Canyon. I did take my A flute. I played it on the river, where the clear tones carried far on the river and reverberated from the Canyon walls. I played it from high trails. I played it in side canyons, too – notably in a grotto of Blacktail Canyon that is renowned for its acoustics, and there I recorded with a high-quality digital recorder. Some of my other playing was recorded with a little camera in HD video. It was a joy.,

Hi Rich!

The Flute is delightful!  I look forward to 'painting' it!  This is a nice feeling for me...  As a long time performer / teacher, I've never had an instrument that I could paint and decorate....fun...!

Hi, Rich!

Got flute December 30. Love it. Plastic has a great advantage over the tree. Do not get wet or swell. With drone playing flute nicely. Very nice sound.
Thank you!

Привет, Рич!
Получил флейту 30 декабря. Очень нравится. Пластик имеет большое преимущество над деревом. Не намокает, не разбухает. С дроном играть на флейте приятно. Очень красивый звук.
Спасибо!

Hey, Rich,

I just thought you’d enjoy seeing this photo of Ron Warren working with my kids on your flutes! He had never seen them before, but was very pleased with how transfixed the kids are to play them. I’m wondering if I’m not meant to spread the word to the ‘Orff-Schulwerk’ Music Ed world that these flutes are the next best extension to our cultural and improvisational work...or maybe they already know but aren’t advertising it yet...

Ron seemed to be quite happy that SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE was starting this work, i.e. making flutes that are accessible to schools. :)

We’re having Thanksgiving this next week, and I know one of the things I’m thankful for...Rich Dube and his flutes.

Best Wishes,

re: Grandfather Tuned Plains/Woodlands Style Northern Spirit Flute

The flute just arrived. Wow!  I'm simply amazed at the sound and playability. Truly magic and a very enchanting tuning!

I continue to be delighted with the flute.  The scale is inspiring me to novel ideas.  I had it out in the woods yesterday in a gorge and water basin area and it really carried. - Tom M. – Customer 2013

I am well pleased with this flute. It produces clear tones with pleasing resonance, and it is an exceptionally responsive instrument – not as demanding with respect to breath control as my wooden flutes, but sensitive to variations in pressure and articulation so that subtleties of pitch and timbre can be readily achieved.

This single flute appears identical to the single flute on the right side of the drone flute that I bought from you several weeks ago. I find it easier to bring out the tone quality that I expect in the single flute than when I play the right side of the drone flute separately, without the drone side. I suspect that is due to differences in finger positioning that are unavoidable, given the greater width of the drone flute. It’s interesting to alternate playing the single flute of the drone and then bringing the drone in, so I’m working toward improving my control of both. As I anticipated, the drone flute is a more challenging instrument. The more familiar single flute is relaxing and now, toward the end of my first year learning the Native American flute, it feels more intuitive.

I bought these flutes mainly because I wanted instruments of quality that would be resistant to moisture if I wished to play in fog or rain, and resistant to impacts when carried in a backpack. Both of the flutes I’ve bought from you fulfill my hopes.

Hi Rich,

I haven't put together the kit yet but I felt I had to write and tell you how much I love the drone. I have been playing it, pretty much constantly, since I first unpacked it.  If you make other keys, please put me on the list of purchasers!

Regards,
Glenn Refling

Everything arrived in great shape a few hours ago.  I am quite amazed!  I hoped the flutes would sound good, but I never hoped or expected they would sound THAT GOOD!!  This is incredible!  A flute I can play in the rain and in front of anyone and not feel like  I'm giving up anything! How did you do this?  You've just consigned a couple of nice and much more expensive wooden flutes to the "give away" drawer.  THANK YOU!!

Fr. Charles D.

Rich,

I wanted to send this to you after getting my own A flute of yours. Please make them in other keys as soon as you can, they are truly the only flutes we have fought over and we need them in other keys as well!

Joanne and I have 34 NA Flutes right now so we really have a feel for which ones work best. Your ABS NA Style Flutes are the ONLY Flute we have two exactly the same

The reason is we both were always wanting to play THAT Flute! I recently went to a flute circle and brought this flute and told the others that this was the fastest playing flute we had, it doesn't break into anther octave accidentally, rarely wets out, and when composing a song it is most often the flute I choose. Trouble free, reliable as can be, loud and clear tones, perfectly tuned. Once you play it you won't care what it's made of!

This flute is spot on, always works, (it's the one to take to the beach) I Think you could take it swimming and come out of the water playing.

This is really about evolution. Better sound than many flutes costing THREE TIMES the price, faster to play without slipping the notes, more reliable, not temperature or moisture sensitive. This is the one you always want to have with you. If you have two flute players in the family you'll want to have two of these. Trust me, I know!

Respectfully yours,

Kevin Degnan

I played the flute by a park lake yesterday while my son ran off some energy. Sweet tone and impervious to the 70-80% humidity we've been having.

Paul Van Heuklom

Rich,

Just thought I'd let you know --

We LOVE the flutes, and it has made a world of difference in our flute class.  I'm impressed with the intonation, ease of playing, and sturdy construction that is evidenced in each of the flutes, and I know they'll hold up to years of use.

Happy New Year!!! A long over-due thank-you for your talent, creativity and inventiveness. We are in the process of learning to play the flutes and I am so pleased to have so many students EXCITED about the process. WOW!!!!

I appreciated how smooth the flute making process went thanks to your explicit directions especially from the Youtube videos.I hope to see you at Spring Fling.
Once again, thank-you, thank-you, thank-you Rich!!!!

Here's to many more hours of music making and touching  the hearts of so many children. All the best in 2011!

Sincerely,
Cheryl Stephenson

We are embarking on our flute journey on Tuesday as you know. I needed 10 flutes for my upcoming "new crop" of flutists, and so I spent about an hour last night making those up! With EACH one, I was just amazed at how slick this process is and how wonderful it is to pick that "newly hatched flute" up and PLAY!!! Just like that! What a delight! I think you are a genius and I know that these children are just going to fly with these flutes!!! (The recorder journey has not been so successful...aaaaah!)

Talk soon and very best wishes for a wonderful weekend with your family! Aaaah... you have no idea the respect I have for you and your vision of providing these instruments to children across the country!!!! :)

- Janina Carlstad

Thanks again Rich! Everything arrived and people loved the flutes! You have a very special program here.

I look forward to working with you again!

- Tara Prystay Thiessen

Thanks, Richard, for a really great class. I've been playing you're flute way more than the other new flutes I brought back from this year's INAFA.

- Belinda Schlesener

The flute that you so generously gave to me has been given to a very deserving at-risk teenager from a local native tribe.  I was doing an artist in residence program and this young man picked up the flute that I had been bringing with me and began to make incredible music with it.  This kid had been in a reserved shell for the entire program until he picked up that flute.  By the time he was done, another at risk teen had joined him in a duet with her singing.  Tears and joy were in full abundance.

It was immediately clear after that young man picked it up that that flute was now his.

I just wanted to let you know that it found a deserving and permanent home.

Rich,

Hope all’s well. We met you at INAFA and were really impressed with your new flute kit.
This is a heads-up that I will probably be coming to you shortly with an order of 25 – 35 to be used for Scouts. Won’t need them in hand until December 11. Using them for Indian Lore and Music Merit Badge as well as to introduce/teach the NAF.

Jim & Donna Murphy

I can reach all of these kids. I can’t thank you enough.

It’s just so beautiful.  It’s such a joy to see kids grow.

"Hi there, I received my flute very quickly. I really commend you on the tone and simplicity of it. I am extremely happy with it and would recommend it to anyone. I will buy another from you whenever you make a different key. Also I am interested in trying out your drone flute sometime. Thanks so much!" - Joanne

Just received the flutes - Wow they play wonderfully!!!  I have several NAF flutes and have been playing for a long time.  Your flute plays with and sounds with the best them. What a wonderful gift you have created for everyone . . . FUZEN . . . blowing Zen.

"I had the honor of getting a phone call, one day, from Rich Dubé of Northern Spirit Flutes. He asked me if I would help him with designing flutes, he was working on, that are made entirely from U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved ABS plastic and explained to me that it was for children, so that they would be able to learn how to make and play these wonderful instruments at a very affordable price. I could tell in his voice that Rich was extremely sincere and committed to this project. Having children learn about this instrument is very important to me as well, so I told him to ask away with any questions he may have had and I would be happy to help him however I could. Rich called me several times and sent me several design ideas via E-mail to look at and discuss. He purchased a flute from me so that he could visually see how I made my wood flutes. Rich got as close as possible (molds permitting), making a very doable design. These flutes play very well and are fantastic for children to learn on. I tip my hat to Richard for staying so dedicated and for spending hours and hours of his time and using his own money to finance this project for the kids.
Rich, you are a good man with a good spirit....."
